Sears closing Plantation store among 40 others in 24 states

Retail brands that have closed some or all stores in 2017

Sears at the Broward Mall in Plantation will close this summer, according to a Business Insider report.

Sears Holdings Corp. said it will shutter 40 Sears and Kmart stores in 24 states in July or August, BI reported.

Other Florida Sears stores set to close are in Pensacola, Clearwater, Gainesville and Titusville. The struggling retailer told BI will close nine Kmart stores, including one in Brandon.

In March and April, the retailer closed more than 100 stores. The list inlcuded 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears locations including one in Boca Raton. The Sears in Aventura shut down in mid 2017.

Sears has been selling off its real estate and brands as it tries to raise cash. The Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based company sold its Pompano Citi Centre mall properties including the store to an affiliate of the Sterling Organization of Palm Beach. Sears continues to operate the store.
